Winter at Lakeshore

It is another brisk morning at Lakeshore! The current temperature is 28°, but feels like 20°. I think everyone was a little reluctant to emerge from our at least relatively warm quarters. Last year we dealt with chilly weather and torrential rain, but this freezing weather wasn't really anticipated. But God is good and has been providing for the challenges of these circumstances. Those who didn't come prepared with winter clothing have been encouraged to stop by the Mercy House to get supplied with coats, gloves, or whatever they need. The kitchen crew is keeping a pot of soup out all day for those who are working outside and need something warm to eat on their break. The ministry team decided to adapt their outreach approach this morning to minimize exposure to the elements. Because of the cold weather, people were not as willing to engage in conversation while we were canvassing yesterday, so the team has been brainstorming on how to more effectively reach the community while not freezing to death. : ) As the Lakeshore mascot, Semper Gumby, reminds us, we must be flexible and quick to respond to the various difficulties of this week, and everyone has been cooperating very well in adjusting to this unexpected weather!
